In 1957, a young woman with a third-grade education borrowed a pair of shoes, packed everything she owned into a brown paper bag, and rode a bus into Dawson, Georgia, to keep her three children from being separated. None of them was ever split up again. She was my grandmother. This book is the promise I made her.

Journey Began is the honest story of building a real business from almost nothing — an eight-vehicle fleet rental company in South Florida, built with no investors and no inheritance, while I worked a full-time job to keep the lights on. It doesn't skip the hard parts: a business I lost, a bankruptcy, a year that took almost everything. Each failure is in here as tuition — paid, so you don't have to pay it twice.

It's written for the person reading this on a break between shifts, with a little money and an idea that won't leave them alone.
